Crocodile Trips

Crocodiles or muggers are spotted and found in the rivers of Goa. Legend has it that the erstwhile rulers namely the Adil Shahs of Bijapur introduced these reptiles into the rivers to prevent any enemies from crossing rivers and attacking them. A clever ruse perhaps in those days but since then crocodiles has come to inhabit the fresh water bodies especially in the Cumbarjua Canal of the Tiswadi Taluka of North Goa. A unique adaptation is that crocodiles here have acclimatized with the saline water mangrove ecosystem found in the Cumbarjua Canal area. Crocodile spotting boat trips are organized in the backwaters inhabited by crocodiles. Most of these crocodile sightings are in the  river stretch betrween Cortalim and Banastarim areas.
