Temples of Goa

Most of the famous hindu temples in the state of Goa are concentrated in the taluka of Ponda because during the Portuguese conquest and inquisition, most temples were moved here. The various Hindu temples like most temples in India are dedicated to a presiding deity or God/Godess. Likewise there are temples dedicated to Ganesha, Shiva, Saraswati etc. The architecture of temples in Goa is subtly different compared to temples elsewhere owing to historical reasons. This is seen in the fact that local traditions have been enmeshed in the very rigid architectural styles that are both Indian and Mughal. Some of the feted Goan temples are Mangueshi, Mahalasa, Nagueshi and Ramnathi temples.
