Circumscribed in a rather small area of 7.98 square kilometers, the zoo in Bondla wildlife sanctuary is the only zoo in the small state of Goa. Located off the national highway 4A, Bondla zoo is closest to the town of Ponda in central Goa. Endangered species of wild animals are kept at the zoo including the Tiger, Sambar (deer) Gaur (Indian Bison) etc.

Early mornings ,late evenings and nights are very pleasant in Bondla sanctuary and has  an ideal environment for  eco - tourists.

Bondla wildlife sanctuary is covered with moist deciduous forests, with small patches of evergreens and canes along the nullahs. The state tree Terminalia Crenulata (Matti) and Rosewood are common here.

What to see
Zoological Park - A tiny Zoo permits one to see the fauna of Goa in moated enclosures with natural surroundings. Animal exhibits include Tigers, elephant, Panther, Gaur, Sambar, Deers, Sloth Bear, Porcupine, Wild Boar, Crocodiles, Reptiles(King Cobra) etc.
Botanical Gardens - The large collection of plants is of interest to students.
Nature Education Centre - The NEC houses several exhibits, which visitors can see, feel and interpret. An attached library provides details to the inquisitive, and video and cine movies are screened on request.

Birdlife - Bondla wildlife sanctuary is home to over a hundred bird species. For details on bird-watching areas contact the Park Range Office.

Wild Animals - For those seeking greater adventure and excitement, bondla wildlife sanctuary have watch-towers where wild animals like Gaur, Sambar, Wild Boar can be seen at water-holes.However, sighting of animals are rare.

Nature Trails - For the more energetic the Nature Trails provide an ideal opportunity to see nature as it is.

Archeological exhibit - One of the best worked images of deity "Gajalaxmi" with several motives in bold relief belonging to the period between VI and VIII century venerated by ancient settlers are located here.
Where to stay?

This sanctuary has been developed with a view to accommodate day as well as overnight visitors. It has furnished ecotourism cottages, that can accommodate 24 persons, and has 2 dormitories with a total of 48 beds. A spacious restaurant "The Den" adequately caters to the food requirement of the visitor.

How to get there?

By Road:

Bondla wildlife sanctuary is off National Highway 4A (Belgaum - Panaji).

Route: From Mollem - Satpal Sancorda - Shivddem - Bondla sanctuary. (20 kms).

Branch off. at Tiska Route: Tiska - Usgao - Ganjem - Bondla sanctuary(14 kms).

From Margao - Ponda-Usgao-Ganjem-Bondla sanctuary (36 kms)

From Panjim-Ponda-Usgao-Ganjem-Bondla sanctuary (52 kms).
Entry fee: Adult - Rs. 5, Child - Rs. 2, Bike - Rs. 10, Car - Rs. 50, Bus - Rs. 100,

Camera - Rs. 25, Video - Rs. 100

Timing - 9 am - 5 pm  Mondays closed
